Gather Where I Am
There are “necessary endings” in life – sometimes we are called to leave a job, a church, a friendship. Necessary endings are not always easy, and in fact, sometimes we lose a part of ourselves that only those we leave know about.
I experienced a necessary ending and began a new “story” at LifeSpring. But it wasn’t really easy. I am older than most of the women, I don’t have young children, and most people don’t know my story. Some do, for which I am very grateful. I wondered where I fit in.
And Spring Grove isn’t even my home, my neighborhood. I don’t know anybody and no one knows me.
… OK, I’ll make coffee, serve behind the scenes. I am comfortable there.
But then as we were considering the purchase of land and then building a church that would serve the community, the Lord has constantly reminded me of the “why”. Why are we buying land and building a church? It is really that the Sunday School classrooms are too crowded, that we don’t have “street cred” in this building. No, I have come to believe and fiercely believe, that everything I do should be saturated with the Great Commission, Matthew 28:19. That I am called, as we all are, to be a disciple-maker, to live my life as an ambassador, a witness of the Good News of Jesus Christ. That my purpose in life is His purpose, that He desires all to come to Him – 1 Timothy 2:3,4 – “This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth”.
And I do too! So I will step out from behind the coffee bar and love and care for those people that the Lord brings across my path and share the love of Christ. To see every interaction with anyone an opportunity for discipleship, helping people grow in their faith. I have a passion for people, a boldness for Christ that burns in my heart.
