In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. Hebrews 1:1-2
How fascinating, that God would speak first through the prophets, and only later through his Son. Before God spoke through Jesus, he spoke through the prophets He called and appointed. What’s intriguing to me is that God appointed prophets over the course of centuries to declare God’s final word in Jesus.
The virgin birth, Bethlehem, the branch, a wonderful counselor – Almighty God. These were all foretold, long before Jesus’ birth. It was the job of a prophet to point the way. It makes sense that Jesus would later say that he did not come to abolish the law or the prophets, but to fulfill them.
The question is, “Is there anything left that we might learn from these old prophets since we live at a time after Christ birth?
It’s important to remember that the prophets are not the end of the faith conversation, but near the beginning. The beginning of any conversation helps to better understand the end, the final word is illuminated by the first. In other words, what the prophets said about Jesus help us to understand who He is and why He came.
We hope you’ll join us as we discover Jesus through the eyes of Isaiah and the prophets.
